Unbeweavable..

Whilst checking out this Harry Fraud producer guy , i stumbled on this, expecting to hate it, due to the two gentleman rhymers, but, no, this is that dope right here, and i surrender my now former opinions about both dudes.

i was sleeping on them, but at least i’m honest. and open minded.

The Break.

Inside Comedy with David Steinberg [Showtime]

Inside Comedy is currently my favourite TV show. It’s a one-on-one conversational format with veteran writer/ director/ stand-up David Steinberg, and its real basic. The show takes it lead from Steinbergs old 2005 programme Sit Down Comedy with David Steinberg, with a simple face-to-face, breaking bread format, highlighting the ‘inspirations and influences’ of comedians and ‘funny people’ as well as ‘intimate memories and career-defining moments’. Things are a little loose in direction at times and the show might seem brief, but the raw, rare and uncensored footage adds to the fabric of this quality production. NB. The only laugh-track is provided organically by the camera and sound crew…

Some of my personal favourites in Comedy appear over the course of the 10 episode investigative mini-season which started 26 January 2012; Chris Rock, Steven Wright, Judd Appatow, Tina Fey, Garry Shandling, Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld and Mel Brooks. In terms of the level of talent, its a no-brainer. Steinberg interviews some of the finest comedians alive, going back as far as Jonathan Winters and Don Rickles [Louie CK was probably too busy, at the gym no doubt]…

As a guideline, here’s the Chris Rock episode.

Snaps Comedy CD AKA Bizmarkie Tracy Morgan & Coolio tellin Mom jokes…

There are dozens of blogs that simply feature downloads, but HOTASBALLS have never had the desire to just post music without offering opinion, that’s wack, and blinkered, and a bit silly in the scheme of things really.

I’ve been asked to contribute to the archives at http://www.olasunbekons.com, and as youll know, archive access is a terrible thing to waste, so I accepted. Olas have very little to say [and I’d much rather be contributing to a site that uses simple design and Helvetica as a type-face], but when they do, they are bang on it with enough info to inspire a cheeky download that may have passed you by otherwise, the strength of titles across genres is deep and of course, like http://www.hqhiphop.net the quality of transfers are all great, whether VLS, CD or TC [tape cassettes will also feature as part of the bounty too as seen with my 1st, a rare as hens hind-legs UK Hip-Hop holy grail, the unreleased promo cassette of Blak Twangs Dettwork S.E. alblum].

I have no interest in French or Australian Rap myself but Im often surprised at the titles that consistently appear each week, that’s why Olas became a regular RSS feature. Just this morning, one of the many Masters of Records there, DJ Warlord, kindly upped a 15 minute P Funk work-out from 1981 that features George Clinton and Bootsy, rare and totally random, and tasty…

I never imagined that I’d ever want to distribute anything from my masses of digital music, but im beginning to warm to sharing when I see the amount of people downloading them. I know folk appreciate, I just prefer more banter. I came to this conclusion cos I recognise that as much as I’ve wanted to thank every single blogger/ host for sharing good shit when Ive been the ripper, I dont thank em every time. This is me returning the favour with a mere sliver of my collection

Im gonna upload this one here first. It’s a Comedy alblum released on Big Beat Records in 95 that has a few interestin people on it. Check the CD credits; Biz, Tracy Morgan, Carlos Mencia, Faizon Love, Ricky Harris, Coolio, and even, erm, Lords Of The Underground. Ostensibly it’s a collection of Mom jokes that should bolster your back-catalogue next time you plan on baggin on yer mates

A series of publications followed that are all still available.

Anybody actually remember this tour hittin Japan, im old, but im not that old, thats why wee documentary clips like his are great

I dont think I’ve heard Freddy so tidy on the mic since…

Tasty mini-doc about the tour

These were the probably the earliest documented moments in the cultural crossover for worldwide Hip-Hop, the industry as we know it wasnt even a twinkle in Kool Lady Blues eyes at this point…

Cheer up Baby Love, it could be worse, you could have joined the Floormasters/ Nice beaver hat/ Busy Bee is still lookin for that other knee-pad/ KK Rockwell lookin sharp [pause]

OG Jap Wildstyle poster

Look how happy the Cold Crush are, Charlie Chase has some grin on him. Freddy cant believe he’s on a subway platform in Tokyo and I cant believe he pulled off that Argyle and Members Only type jacket combo so well…
