Billy Joel – Stilleto break [Extended]

It’s the gift that keeps on giving, a break. Digging through vinyl bins and uncovering elusive breaks which have already been used is ALWAYS a pleasant experience, especially if you didn’t pay more than a pound. Equally, finding breaks that havent been used is also a good thing.

Uncovering a blissfully extended video version of something like this, a LEGENDARY Kool G Rap break by Billy “Golden Gloves” Joel is a champagne moment. It may only be an extra few bars of virtually clean drums, but cmon, this beautiful noise is priceless.

After pulling out the comparison reports, our thoughts of this just being a basic loop [ala Ultimate Breaks and Beats and pre-sampler style, erm, badly] have been supressed. Upon further inspection, it really just sounds like the band bringing out the “Road to the Riches” in a stripped down but nicely extended version in the first few minutes of the clip, right here, buried within the intro to Billy’s “My Life” video.

NB. Mr Piano Man had a serious Napolean complex if you read into the ‘tough guy’ in leathers look, New Yorks original state of mind having ‘little man’.

Evidently, Billy Joe Joel was too busy to release this extended version due to his penchant for hangin outta Christie Brinkley and lurking in ball-parks, ‘smoking cigarettes and looking tough’.  Be warned, this is serious brain-worm, expect to be re-living those drums in yer head sometime very soon. Don’t say we never give you nothin for Christmas !

DJ Johnny Dett – Voodoo Drums [Brand new mix]

HOLY SHIT-CAKES, you need b-boy drums?

Get down for the merry-go-round with more unapologeticly savage percussion and quick cuts from the man that brought you the suitably titled Uncut Raw & Let it Be Broke mixes. This is only a sample btw, full mix to come, you can hear more on JDs SC below…

“Jason Goldwatch is the Francis Ford Coppola of Hip Hop” – Ricky Powell

…well I dont know about all that, but lookin at his recent resume, were keepin one puss-filled eye on his multi-talents. We like the angle of choppin the holy livin fuck out of viral clips and balancing them with user content of his own, creating a really fresh element to the music video game. Fair play to the man. In case you didnt know, he is the director behind the recent run of Gangrene promos…

As the Gangrene album is on heavy rotation this week, were givin major propage to JG for the visual assist…

The Q-Bert clip below was created by Jason Goldwatch to add visual stimulation to the Dymentional Tryportation of Zorba the Buddha mix from last year, but Mr Goldwatch just keeps hittin us in the head with his arresting talents, photographic, video based or otherwise…

NEW Sparkii Ski & MC Mello ?

Its only been up for a week, but already featured on UK super-producer Sparkii Skis Soundcloud page are random beats, demos, instrumentals of old MC Mello b-sides, and with even just one verse, what seems like a previously unreleased MC Mello track…

Sparkii Ski Feat MC Mello – Musty Aint Avin It

MC Mello – Talk Dem [Instrumental]

He has a co-produced alblum on the way with a group I know very little about too…

From as early as 1987 when the name Sparkie was listed on a Jus Badd release, then soon after on the Comin Correct EP and Blades Lyrical Maniac 12″s, I was always aware of the name Sparkii Ski. Im not gonna spout to knowin too much about Sparkii other than his beat-making ability, he’s part of the En4cers crew with Billy Biznizz and the rest, and he’s produced more MC Mello cuts than I care to recall. Seems he’s been plodding away at a few beats and has some ‘Heritage’ release due in 2012. Keep em peeled…

“Catch up now, or find out later”

i’m revenge in the form of success to all haters

For me, a strong centender for the best l.p of last year was “the marathon continues”, and this was the first song i heard off of it..now getting a very nice visual inspired by Nipsey’s trip to the far east, shouts dantheman. There’s multiple gems dropped in this song, all over some art of noise-inspired greatness. And those drums are hard as fuck.

“in the material world, the thought is contagious..”, that, is some rakim-type shit right there.

“Smokin out in London, and they handing me fish and chips”

not a life changer, but, still a nice lil’ sumthing for the headphones (grado, that is)..

absorb the beat, realise that it’s probly the best flip of the B.Whizzle drums (no lisa stansfield) youv’e heard, forget the first rap singer, and tune in when Mr “the Truth” comes in..all of the Mc’s come wildly differently, but all shine, including Wale, who’s never really impressed me too much (although, the line about loving his mother, and never getting married says a little too much, also, ELTON)

most improved goes to Young Khalifa Man, sounds like he may of even got his pad out for this..not just rhyming, well i might add, but using some nice inflection to sprinkle some more flavour over this niiice beat..one for the pad, or pod, or whatever.
