if you like your rap earnest, like hemingway..and you can do no better at the moment than Cleveland’s own god’s son. Lincoln Way Nights The Fralbum got the re-master treatment after his signing with the Bawse himself, Rick Ro$$, late summer, and is out there to get right now. He speaks for himself on lyrical content, the sample is from one my all time favourites,”tecalli” by the Counts, and although using someone else’s hook is Violating the no-biting code, i’ll consider it an homage…Enjoy.
As incongruous as it sounds, Rick’s ear for music is pretty much undersputed, and all the filtering Rashad uses throught the album not only gets more out of the samples, but gives the whole project a unique (in rap, anyway, as we know, House music BEEN using filters, but on samples?) feeling..and the money gets this clip looking classy. Moody as Fuck.
here’s the Break, too. You see what he did there…
not a life changer, but, still a nice lil’ sumthing for the headphones (grado, that is)..
absorb the beat, realise that it’s probly the best flip of the B.Whizzle drums (no lisa stansfield) youv’e heard, forget the first rap singer, and tune in when Mr “the Truth” comes in..all of the Mc’s come wildly differently, but all shine, including Wale, who’s never really impressed me too much (although, the line about loving his mother, and never getting married says a little too much, also, ELTON)
most improved goes to Young Khalifa Man, sounds like he may of even got his pad out for this..not just rhyming, well i might add, but using some nice inflection to sprinkle some more flavour over this niiice beat..one for the pad, or pod, or whatever.
If you don’t know about Schoolboy Q, shame on you, as his “Setbacks” Fralbum was one of the best in recent years..anyways, his new one is out in a week, so familiarise yourself, and you can say you were down…
lotta gems in all of franks music, and really good to hear him over more “our” kinda music..
thank god tim actually woke up…woke up and realised just how close to tony blackburn he was in danger of becoming. Since joining radio 1’s daytime crew, and, i assume having to deal with subjects, people and guests outside his comfort zone, he actually seems to of grown a sense of humour! Everything about this clip is dope..from how many times he says “baby”, oblivious to the fact it sounds wierd, to the way he comes across as j.ross-style creepy.it’s like he’s laughing at how ridiculous you have to be to be in Hip-Hop right now….
dick jokes are always in fashion..bonus, here’s some bars Large Sean flipped while in the session. safe and secure…makes me wanna press play and record. westwood is Back.
and for people who aren’t too keen on these new fangled beats, here he “goes in” over “iv’e got five on it” with chip the Ripper, and Curren$y..allow the dj.
just doin’ my bit for real rap music. so many gems dropped, and it gets deeper with every listen. i think i’m only really checking for about ten dudes in 2011, Evidence is one of them..and real nice to hear someone cutting havoc’s verse from shook one’s, not p’s…guwan mickey!

Enjoyed the piece in the Family section of The Guardian yesterday about Pauline Blacks youth and emergence in the world of popular music. If you enjoyed the ‘On My Radio’ clip a few weeks ago you may enjoy this read from the Selecter lead singer herself…
Dunno why Ive been listening to alotta 2Tone recently but it’s always good to know a little more about the definitive British music culture, and even better to hear it from the mind of the most important [along with Rhoda Dakar] females from the time. Her book is available here
this first beat is firey hot shit, like you just ate vindaloo in the loo, knomesayn?
